Germany’s Best & Oktoberfest Brings German Traditions and Technologies to Navy Pier

Friday, September 16, 2011

German American Services, Inc., the producers of the yearly Christkindlmarket, Chicago’s beloved, authentic Christmas market, is announcing a new event: Germany’s Best & Oktoberfest! As the name suggests, this is an event in two distinct, yet intimately related parts: first, Germany’s Best as a showcase of modern Germany’s strengths in a variety of areas; and second, an Oktoberfest as a widely known and celebrated traditional aspect of Germany. The dates for this event are September 23 through October 10, 2011; Sunday – Tuesday 11 AM until 9 PM, and Wednesday through Saturday 11 AM until 10 PM.

Just like at the Christkindlmarket, German American Services, Inc. is striving to deliver another truly authentic cultural experience and design a unique platform where traditional and modern Germany meet. “We want to use the broad appeal of this event to engage and inform a variety of people about Germany’s Best: Modern Germany’s strengths in innovative manufacturing; green technologies; arts; and education/training” said Ray Lotter, German American Services, Inc’s Vice President and Managing Director. This refers to both the country itself as a prime location for investment, study, work, and quality of life, as well as to “Germany within the US.” German investment and trade plays an important role in the US economy and German companies are perceived as attractive employers and good corporate citizens committed to workforce development and education. Over 610,000 people in the US are currently employed by German companies.

To kick off the event, the festivities will begin with a Grand Opening Event on Friday, September 23rd. The festivities continue in the Oktoberfest tents, which will be a faithful recreation of those found in Germany. The interior will be draped with blue and white panels and guests will be seated at bona fide 7ft long Bavarian style, wood topped garden tables and benches. Waitresses in Dirndls and waiters in Lederhosen will roam the tents, adding to the traditional feel of the event. In addition, guests will be treated to the smells of German food wafting through the tent as German vendors prepare imported classics like Bratwurst. Between all of this, the sounds of German music, both traditional and modern, can be heard from the center stage. Just like at the Oktoberfest in Munich, groups and corporations can reserve a private table (Stammtisch) to entertain business clients or guests from out of town.

German American Services, Inc. will work with partners, both locally and in Germany, to also represent Germany’s many cultural offerings in literature, music, and film. Those who are interested in German companies will not be disappointed. Neither will those who share Germany’s passion for engineering. Whether it’s a German engineered car, or some German household products, this is an opportunity for those interested to come and learn about a side of Germany that they may not have experienced before.

If the goal is to have fun and leave with a richer understanding of modern Germany’s culture, technology, companies, and other initiatives, and how they connect to America, then Germany’s Best & Oktoberfest is the place to be. Get ready to “O’zapft is!”
