Molasses Creek Brings Traditional Music to Chandler
Wednesday, April 4, 2012
Molasses Creek returns to Randolph with traditional music from the tidewater marshes of Ocracoke Island, NC with a performance in the Esther Mesh Room in Chandler’s Upper Gallery on Friday April 27 at 7:30 PM. A cash bar will be available. This high-energy acoustic group continues to win loyal followings with their captivating stage presence, elegant harmonies, blazing instrumentals and quirky sense of humor.
The remote island of Ocracoke lies twenty-three miles off the North Carolina shore. Accessible only by ferry, a trip to the island is a step back in time into a land of captivating natural beauty, rich in maritime history and folklore, and populated by 900 independently-minded residents.”
This will be the band’s third trip through the area in as many years, and their fan base continues to grow. Executive Director Becky McMeekin says, “Their warm and engaging presence on stage combined with the lure and mystique of the enchanting island they call home is a powerful combination. It feels like we’re welcoming old friends home.”
Award winners on Garrison Keillor’s “Prairie Home Companion”, Molasses Creek has recorded eleven albums and its members have been featured in the Warner Brothers’ movie “Nights in Rodanthe” and have played at presidential receptions.
The band’s roster includes Gary Mitchell (rhythm guitar and vocals), Dave Tweedie (fiddle, vocals and cittern), Lou Castro (dobro, lead guitar, electric bass and vocals), Marcy Brenner (mandolin, guitar, bass, percussion and vocals) and Gerald Hampton (mandolin and upright bass). They’ll be performing music from a newly-released CD.
Tickets are $16 in advance and $19 day of show. Discounted advance tickets can be purchased through the Chandler Box Office by calling 802-728-6464. If available, tickets will also be available at the door on April 27. The performance space is wheelchair accessible.
