Company Description

Come enjoy the beautiful Shenandoah Valley in the company of a llama and let their calm, tranquil nature soothe away your everyday stress. We can choose from several trails designed to suit the adventurous hiker, as well as the entire family. We operate under a special use permit issued by the Shenandoah River State Park in Bentonville, VA. Our trails vary in difficulty from easy to moderately strenuous. We have selected the trails with the objective to have fun, enjoy nature, and relax. Our goal is to provide a variety of experiences for the conditioned as well as the unconditioned hiker. We will generally spend about four to five hours on the trail, departing around 11:00 am and returning by 4:00 in the afternoon. We will stop about halfway into our hike to relax and enjoy an elegantly presented picnic lunch. All dishes are prepared with fresh ingredients and local produce, when available.

Hikes are offered on weekends only. We operate throughout the year with the exception of Mid June though the end of August. These months are generally too hot and humid for the llamas. Reservations are taken on a first come, first served basis.

Participants should be in good physical health and able to walk at a moderate pace for 2 to 5 miles. Most of our trails include a moderate increase in elevation. Children age 6 and older are welcome on our hikes, but they must be able to walk the entire trail. Our pack llamas carry up to 50 pounds of gear for us, but they are not trained to accept riders. In addition, insurance requirements limit our llamas to packing only.

Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult who assumes responsibility for their whereabouts and safety at all times. Group size ranges from 4 to 8 persons plus 2 trail guides. We prefer to take only you and your friends as this makes our trips very personalized. However, if your group is less than 3 people, we may combine your trek with another couple. If your group is larger than 8 people, we will make arrangements to accommodate you if possible.

At the present time, we have 6 pack llamas that accompany us on our hikes. Any of our guests are welcome and encouraged to lead a llama, including children over 8 years of age. Our guests find that our llamas are very easy to handle. We’ll give you all the instruction that you need before we head out, and Tim and I are always readily available if you need assistance.
