In 1968, Wildwater Expeditions pioneered white water, rafting the thrilling rapids through the New River Gorge with commercial guests. Our early efforts spawned a white water rafting industry that now shares the Wild and Wonderful outdoors of West Virginia and the world class white water rapids of the New River Gorge with hundreds of thousands of guests every summer.

New River White Water Rafting TripsThe New River, known to many as the Grand Canyon of the East, features the best white water rafting in America! The New River lies in a stunning and picturesque, West Virginia gorge, with the mountains of the Allegheny Plateau creating a dramatic skyline more than 700 feet above the river. Wildwater Expeditions white water rafting trips tour two sections of the New River Gorge:
- Rafting the Upper New River of West Virginia: class I to class III whitewater (great for beginners and all ages), with lots of time for relaxed floating and swimming; and
- Rafting the Lower New River of West Virginia: with class III to class IV+ rapids, this whitewater rafting ride is a thrill for novices and veterans.

Gauley River TripsSo good, it has its own season. Gauley Season is 22 days (usually 6 weekends) of world-class whitewater every fall. West Virginia's "Beast of the East" becomes a rafting mecca, attracting people from around the world with its 60-plus rapids, including The Big Five - class V rapids guaranteed to thrill.
The Gauley even has an intermediate section for anyone uncertain about challenging The Big Five. Work up to the test with the Lower Gauley River: same amazing scenery, with a mix of great whitewater rapids and relaxation.
