The best of California whitewater rafting is what you will find at Zephyr Whitewater. We are one of California's original and most experienced whitewater rafting outfitters. Since 1973, we have offered exceptional California whitewater trips on the Kings, Tuolumne, Merced, and American rivers, all near Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, and Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Parks. Our guides are the best in the business, and they will keep you safe, happy, and well fed on your California rafting trip. Our river trips range from 1/2 day to 3 days in length, and all meals and camping are included. Our river trips are great for individuals, families, groups of all kinds, including first time rafters and advanced thrill seekers.
Family Trips
Family whitewater river rafting has become increasingly popular in the last few years. Kids have a ball on our rafting trips, and we are absolutely convinced that families that have rafted together have become more bonded, more tightly knit, and can share their whitewater memories with each other for a lifetime. These trips are recommended for the experienced rafter also, but they generally require less physical stamina than our more advanced rivers.
Advanced Trips
Get ready for a wet and wild ride. These 3 awesome rivers offer some of the best whitewater in the world, and are just a few hours drive from both Los Angeles and San Francisco. First time rafters are welcome, but must be in good physical condition and able to swim.
Special Trips
While we consider all of our California whitewater rafting trips "special", the extra special rafting trip listed below takes advantage of one of the most scenic spots in the entire world...Yosemite Valley. This extended trip combines the Merced and Tuolumne Rivers, and allows you extra time to shed the stresses of everyday life, and to eat really well! Starting dates on these trips are limited.
Whitewater School
Our school is for both men and women of all age groups (minimum age 18) who are interested in either gaining knowledge for independent river touring, or who have a desire to become a commercial white-water river guide. During this course, you will learn the fundamental skills of reading whitewater and maneuvering rafts, as well as a full range of rafting safety and rescue procedures.
Topics covered will include the understanding of various water conditions, the appropriate way to swim rapids and eddies, throw-bag procedures, swiftwater rescue techniques, high-siding, flipping and unwrapping rafts, proper knots and recommended raft-rigging, hypothermia prevention and treatment, and natural history interpretation. Each year, depending on staff needs, Zephyr hires quite a few of its new guides directly from this school. Our school is not only informative and professional, but is also a lot of fun.
